Jesus commanded: “Take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”Matthew 6:34
This is very important in our lives as believers; Jesus taught that being anxious even before situations or adverse circumstances may appear preconditions our minds to fret and worry.
As believers, we have to understand that both fear and faith have within them the power to be productive. Fear, if given its way, robs and steals from our lives, whereas possessing and exercising faith anchors our heart in the complete certainty and assurance of the faithfulness of the Father to undertake in our lives.
Did you know that fear has torment? Fear causes a person to dread. When fear of the future is allowed to take hold, our confidence and trust in the Father’s care begins to weaken.
Therefore, as believers, we must live our lives one day at a time, with the rock-solid assurance that the One who is the source of our trust and confidence remains the same, with no diminishing of His grace and provision.
We are given an object lesson from Jesus: when His disciples were overwhelmed by the storm, Jesus did two things: He rebuked both the wind and their unbelief, saying: “Wherefore are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?”Matthew 8:26. In that moment, we are to gain the understanding that Jesus revealed a profound spiritual principle. Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time.
One of them will take control: Fear works to cause us to magnify the problem, whereas faith will always cause us to magnify the greatness of God. Fear will cause us to focus our attention on the waves; Faith will urge us to fix our whole lives on the One who commands the waves.
Herein is an important truth that we must understand: Fear in our lives will cause us to question God’s care for us, but as we execute our God-given faith, it will cause us to rest confidently in His power, His wisdom, and His unfailing promises.
Jesus consistently taught that worry and fear are enemies of a life of faith. Therefore He calls His followers to cast aside anxious thoughts and place their confidence in the Father’s loving care. Trusting in Jesus Christ is to surrender our tomorrow into His hands.
