Are The Conditions of Our Eyes Important?
Jesus declared: The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22). What Jesus is teaching in this incident, and how it applies to our lives, is very important.
Jesus is revealing a truth that has escaped the attention of many believers; I myself have failed to comprehend the importance of this message. What, you may ask, does a person’s eye represent?
The eye represents a person’s spiritual focus and perception. When the eye is “single”, meaning that it is fixed upon Jesus and His word with an undivided heart, our whole lives as believers will be flooded with His light. Thereby our Spiritual vision will determine our spiritual direction.
Jesus also said: “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)
This warning reveals the importance of seeing people as the Father sees them. To despise others is evidence of distorted spiritual vision, whereas those who look continually upon the Father’s face reflect His love, care, and compassion.
Jesus teaches that the eye is more than a physical organ; it represents the condition of the heart. A single eye fixed upon the Father through Christ produces spiritual light, discernment, and godly priorities. But when a person’s vision is divided or clouded by worldly desires, that light is diminished.
