Jesus declared: And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:14.
The Lord Jesus Christ is Inseparably Joined to the Gospel.
This truth must become deeply rooted in the life of every believer. The gospel must never be viewed as an optional addition to discipleship. It stands at the very heart of the Father’s redemptive purpose. It is the divine proclamation that calls for repentance, obedience, faithfulness, and a living testimony. The gospel is far more than the declaration that Jesus Christ was crucified, raised from the dead, and ascended into heaven. While the epistles reveal who believers are in Christ, the Gospels reveal how believers are to live in Christ. The gospel must become the governing motive behind every sacrifice, causing believers to turn from themselves and yield wholly to the will and purposes of Almighty God.
Embracing the Gospel Requires Wholehearted Surrender.
Such surrender allows life to be shaped and sustained by the truth of Jesus Christ through His cross, His resurrection, and His call to walk the narrow way. Jesus declared: “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction… Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:13–14).
Again Jesus said: “The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field… for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” (Matthew 13:44). The value of the gospel is so great that even the surrender of one’s entire earthly life is not too great a price, for through it believers receive what they could never obtain for themselves: true life.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ Reconciles Sinners to the Father.
It alone brings men from death to life and alone possesses the power to transform the human heart. “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it” (Mark 8:35). To lose one’s life for the gospel means valuing Jesus Christ and His message so highly that nothing in this world is allowed to compete with Him. To forsake the self-life is to align with the Father’s will, the mission of Jesus Christ, and the continuing work of the Holy Spirit. A life preserved in self-interest will ultimately be lost, but a life laid down for Christ and His gospel will be preserved eternally.
