Jesus said: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”John 15:5.
Here Jesus makes it unmistakably clear that a life disconnected from Him can never produce any lasting spiritual fruit. Concerning our lives as believers, we must gain this understanding: In the natural realm, a branch has no life apart from the vine; so too in the spiritual, neither can anyone fulfil the Father’s purpose through one’s own strength, or reliance on one’s natural wisdom.
Abiding in Christ is not an occasional act of devotion but a continual dependence upon Him, allowing His life to flow freely within. To abide in Christ is to remain in fellowship with Him, to trust His words, obey His voice, and draw daily upon His life.
As we continue in Jesus Christ: We are being transformed from the inside out. Our thoughts, desires, attitudes, and actions increasingly reflect His character. Therefore, what we could never produce through our human effort becomes the natural result of His life working within us.
Jesus also taught: “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”John 15:8. These words reveal that the Father’s desire is not merely for His people to possess knowledge about Christ but to bear the fruit that comes from remaining in Him. Thereby a fruitful life glorifies the Father, and reveals Christ’s reality to the world, providing unmistakable evidence of genuine discipleship.
The challenge laid before our lives, therefore, is not whether a person occasionally follows Christ, but whether we are truly abiding in Him day by day. They lead believers into fellowship with Almighty God. Therefore, Jesus Christ teaches us that His words are powerful because they reveal truth to our lives, impact our lives, and, if obeyed, guide our every step; they provide a secure foundation for lasting faith.
Therefore, we are admonished to continually receive His words and obey them, to enable us to walk in the life that He came to give. Amen.
