Then Jesus went out again by the sea, and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. As Jesus passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi’s house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Jesus eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Mark 2 : 13-17.

This is really important, you have to know this:

  • Religious leaders recoiled at the sight of Jesus dining with sinners, but Jesus declared the heart of His mission: “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” He is the Great Physician, and only those who admit their sickness will ever be healed.

  • This is not just a story from the past. It is an invitation in the present. Jesus still calls sinners.

  • He still sits with the unwanted. He still offers mercy instead of condemnation. He still says, “Follow Me.”

  • Will you rise like Levi? Will you repent and follow the One who came for you? The table is still open. The call still stands. Follow Him.

Jesus did not come for the clean, the proud, or the self-satisfied. He came for the broken, the rejected, and the sinful—those who know they need saving.
