“And when Jesus entered into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto Him as He was teaching, and said, By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell Me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.” (Matthew 21:23–24)

The authority of the Father was unmistakably manifested in and through Jesus Christ. Everything He said, everything He did, and every miracle He performed bore witness to the authority that had been entrusted to Him by the Father.

Even His opponents recognised that Jesus Christ operated under an authority unlike anything they had ever witnessed.  His teaching carried weight, His actions carried certainty, and His presence confronted every human and spiritual power that opposed the will of the Father.

“And when Jesus had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” (Matthew 10:1)

The reality of Jesus Christ’s authority is clearly revealed in this moment. He did not merely instruct His disciples or encourage them with words; He called them and gave them power and authority. Such an action could only proceed from One who already possessed absolute authority Himself.

This commissioning of the disciples through Jesus Christ reveals more than a mission; it reveals His identity. Jesus Christ stood as the One sent by the Father, exercising divine authority in full harmony with the Father’s will. Demons were subject to His word, sickness obeyed His command, and that same authority was lawfully entrusted to those whom He sent.

His authority extended over creation itself. “Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26) What no man could control was brought into perfect obedience by a single word from Jesus Christ.

Demons likewise fled at His command, crying out in fear because they recognised the authority that rested upon Him: What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” (Mark 1:27)

The people were astonished because they witnessed authority that did not depend upon tradition, position, or human approval. It proceeded directly from the Father and was displayed openly through His Son.

His authority also extended to the forgiveness of sins. “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins…” (Mark 2:10). To confirm this authority, Jesus commanded the paralytic to arise, take up his bed, and walk. Immediately, the man was healed before them all. The miracle visibly demonstrated the invisible reality that Jesus Christ possessed authority not only over sickness but also over sin itself.

Jesus Christ never acted independently, but as the perfect expression of the Father’s will on earth. As He declared: “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do.” (John 5:19)

The authority manifested in Jesus Christ was therefore the authority of the Father Himself, revealed in human form so that all might see, believe, and recognise that the Father had sent His Son into the world.

Through Jesus Christ, the Father’s Kingdom was not merely proclaimed; it was demonstrated with power.
