But Jesus answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”Matthew 4:4.

Just as the body weakens without food, so the spirit withers without the Word. The body was created to be sustained by daily bread; without nourishment, it loses strength, clarity, and life itself.

Similarly, in the same way, the inner life of a person was created to be sustained by the Word of God. When the Word is neglected, the spirit does not remain neutral; it weakens, discernment dulls, faith weakens, and obedience grows burdensome rather than joyful.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth made this truth unmistakably clear. He declared, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:30-31.

The life of a believer, in its truest sense, is sustained not merely by physical provision but by continual dependence upon Father’s spoken will, which is unveiled through His word

This is of utmost importance in the lives of believers. Jesus makes it clear that His words are the pathway to knowing the truth and the proof of true discipleship. Following His teachings brings freedom and life transformation into our lives as believers

When the Words of Jesus Christ are received, life is strengthened; but on the other hand, when His word, which is Spirit and life, is ignored, spiritual famine sets in.

Here is a vital truth that must be embraced in the lives of every believer: it is our spiritual nourishment. Jesus said, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).

This truth cannot be overstated. Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.” (Matthew 7:24)

These words show that Jesus’ teachings provide a firm foundation for our lives. And also our obedience to His words protects us through trials and guides our steps in every circumstance.

For a believer to try to live apart from the words of Jesus Christ is to attempt to live a spiritual life without the spiritual sustenance that comes from the word by the Spirit of the Lord.

A believer who neglects the words of Jesus Christ will, over a short period of time, discover that their prayers become hollow, their times of worship become routine and stagnant, and this is very serious; their resistance to sin or temptation weakens.

Every believer must understand that this is never because our Father has withdrawn His presence; rather, it happens because His Word has been neglected in our lives..

In one of the letters to the early body of believers, it was stated that the Word is meant to dwell richly within the believer.( Colossians 3:16)

As food strengthens bone and muscle, so the Word strengthens faith, renews the mind, and anchors the heart in truth.  Without it, the believer becomes vulnerable, being “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine” ( Ephesians 4:4)

The Word has been given; now the question is whether it will be received. Those who feed daily upon the words of Jesus Christ grow strong, being rooted and firmly established, and discerning.

Those who neglect it may still appear alive, yet inwardly they weaken. In the natural realm, a person’s starved body cannot run the race set before it, and consequently, a starved spirit cannot faithfully follow the Shepherd.

Life, endurance, and obedience flow from this one necessity: continual nourishment from the living Word of God.

Jesus taught that His words are powerful because they reveal truth, guide our lives, and form the foundation of lasting faith. Following them is essential for life in Him.
