And one of the company said unto Jesus, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And Jesus said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And Jesus said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

And Jesus spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, you fool, this night thy soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided? So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Luke 12:13-21.

This is really important, you have to know this:

  • Jesus warns with unmistakable clarity: the value of a man’s life is not measured by his possessions. The danger lies not in having wealth, but in trusting it, hoarding it, and building one’s identity upon it.

  • The rich man in the parable is not condemned for being wealthy, but for living without God—planning for many years, yet ignoring eternity. He made careful provision for his body, but none for his soul.

  •  He built bigger barns, but gave no thought to being rich toward God. And in a moment, death shattered his illusions.

  • God called him a fool—not because he failed in business, but because he succeeded in everything that didn’t matter. His soul was required, and he was not ready.

So it is today: whoever lays up treasure for themselves but is not rich toward God will be found poor on the day their soul is required.Do not wait. Be rich toward God. Forsake covetousness. Turn your heart to Christ while there is still time.
