Jesus declared: “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” — John 17:3
Here Jesus reveals that eternal life is far more than an endless existence after death. Every believer must gain a thorough understanding of the implications of eternal life in our lives.
It is the present reality of knowing the Father personally through His Son. Living in continual fellowship with Him. It is about possessing the very life that proceeds from Almighty God Himself.
And allowing that life to transform every part of one’s being.
Jesus also promised: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” — John 5:24
Eternal life begins the moment a person hears the word of Christ, believes the Father who sent Him, and responds in obedient faith. Through hearing, believing, and acting upon His word, a divine work begins within the heart. Believers need to understand that this is not the result of human effort but the transforming ministry of the Holy Spirit, who works through the living word of Jesus Christ to impart the very life of God.
Several important aspects must become a reality in our lives as believers in Jesus Christ: This new life is more than a change of destination; It produces a radical change of our nature. This is of tremendous importance; through the new birth, we have passed from spiritual death into newness of life.
Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of Almighty God in our lives, we can walk in communion with the Father; as we do so, we will grow not only in the knowledge of His character, but we will experience both His love and His will for our lives. Therefore, as we continue to abide in Jesus Christ, the life we have received increasingly manifests itself in: a greater awareness of our righteousness. A deeper understanding of Holiness, and experiencing the manifold fruit of the Spirit.
