Drawn To The Father Through Jesus
Jesus declared: No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. John 6:44-46.
This is a profound truth concerning salvation: no one comes to Jesus independently of the Father’s drawing. Salvation begins with the Father, who calls people to Himself through the revelation of His Son, through the preaching of His Word. The Father draws through teaching, revelation and truth. Yet Jesus makes clear that merely hearing is not enough.
The person must hear, learn and come. The Father’s drawing demands a response. Jesus is the exclusive revelation of the Father to humanity. He did not come simply as another religious teacher; He came from the Father and spoke the Father’s words. Jesus declared:“I speak to the world those things which I have heard of Him.”John 8:26
And again Jesus reiterates, “I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.”John 8:28, And on another occasion Jesus said: “The Father which sent Me, He gave Me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak… whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto Me, so I speak.”John 12:49–50
Therefore, the words of Jesus Christ, which is the Gospel of the Kingdom, are not merely the opinions or teachings of a great religious leader. Through the words of Christ, the Father makes Himself known and draws people to Himself.
Jesus declared: “He that believes on Me has everlasting life. I am that bread of life.”John 6:47–48, This is of tremendous importance: to hear Christ is to encounter the Father’s truth; and to believe Christ is to respond to that truth.
Believers must understand the importance of the Gospel: that Jesus has commanded His followers to preach. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”Mark 16:15–16
The disciples obeyed, and: “They went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.”Mark 16:20.
The Gospel is therefore not merely information about Jesus. It is the proclamation of the truth of Almighty God through Christ, bringing hearers face-to-face with the One who calls them. The pattern is therefore unmistakable:
The Father draws.
Christ reveals.
The Gospel is preached.
The hearer must respond.
Jesus did not say merely that those who hear will come. He said: “Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes unto Me.”John 6:45.
And: “He that believes on Me has everlasting life. John 6:47. The Word of Christ must not simply be heard and admired. It must be heard, believed, received and obeyed. The Father is drawing people to Himself through Jesus Christ. The question is therefore not whether the call has gone out. It has.
The question is whether those who hear will respond. Jesus’ declaration remains absolute: “No man can come to Me, except the Father who has sent Me draw him.”John 6:44 The challenge is unavoidable: Is the heart responding to the Father’s drawing through Jesus Christ, or is it resisting the very Son through whom the Father is calling?
