The Divine Life That Sustains the Believer

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10). The believer knows that the life received through Jesus Christ is the very life that has come forth from the Father. It is enduring, incorruptible, and fully sufficient for the needs of the reborn spirit and for every area of life.

This new life is not sustained by human effort, natural wisdom, or outward ability, but by the continual supply that comes from the Father Himself. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. Without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:4-5)

Because we have been born of God, there should be no longer a dependence upon the old life of the flesh to guide, strengthen, or preserve us. Instead, there is continual learning to rely on the life of Christ within our lives, enabling us to walk in righteousness, endure through trials, and gain victory over temptation through steadfastness in faith. The life of the Father within our lives is living, active, fruitful, and unfailing. It is sufficient to sustain us through every circumstance and every season of life.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.” (John 14:27). As believers we need to understand that Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, is far more willing to give than we have yet learned to receive. His heart is not restrained, reluctant, or limited. Through Jesus Christ, He has opened the riches of His grace and invited His children to come boldly before Him.

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:11).The Heavenly Father is more than able to lavish upon His children wisdom, peace, strength, comfort, mercy, and unfailing love in measures far beyond human comprehension.

Through Jesus Christ, the Father has provided all that is necessary for life, godliness, fruitfulness, and perseverance. His divine life faithfully sustains His people until His purpose is fully accomplished. The Lord Jesus declared that He came so that His people might have life, and have it more abundantly. Therefore, the believer’s confidence is not in human strength, personal ability, or earthly resources, but in the inexhaustible life of the Father made available through the Son.

As we abide in Christ, His life continues to supply, sustain, strengthen, and bear fruit, proving in every circumstance that the Father’s life within us is more than sufficient.
